The suite "Histoire du Tango"

The suite "Histoire du Tango" has a special position in the work of Piazzolla. Piazzolla uses the shape of the Baroque suite and the four movements Bordel 1900, Cafe 1930, Nightclub 1960 and Concert Aujourd'hui
are programmatic titles. In the first movement Bordel 1900, he uses the idiom of the traditional tango of the early 1900's. In Café 1930 the harmony is already much more complicated and extensive - as it was heard in the tango cafè's. In the 60 years, the tango had developed again, the "Tango Nuevo" had become socially acceptable. In the last movement Concert Aujourd'hui Piazzolla describes musically the further development of the tango. Here you can hear distinct elements of Bartok and Stravinsky.
